When you hold a hardware wallet, you’re trusting it with your digital assets. That trust starts long before the device reaches your hands — it starts with who builds it. Today we want to share, at a high level, who builds ours: our PHSM 8 devices are manufactured by Foxconn, and the CrossBar Secure Processing Unit (SPU) inside them is fabricated by TSMC. These are, quite simply, the highest tier of manufacturing partners in the world.

 

1. Foxconn: Apple-Grade Device Manufacturing

Foxconn is the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer — the company best known for assembling the iPhone. Brands design the product; Foxconn sources the components, assembles the device, and tests every unit. When a product needs to be built by the millions with near-zero defect rates, Foxconn is who the world’s top brands call.

Building a device like the PHSM 8 — with its e-ink touchscreen, fingerprint sensor, NFC, wireless charging, and a 5.5 mm slim body — demands precision assembly, rigorous quality control, and airtight supply-chain management. Foxconn brings all three at a level few factories on Earth can match: the same processes and quality standards behind Apple products are behind every PHSM 8.

For a security device, the supply chain matters as much as the assembly line. Working with Foxconn gives us end-to-end supply-chain control and traceability, so every unit that ships is exactly what we designed — no substitutions, no surprises.

 

2. TSMC: The Gold Standard in Chip Fabrication

TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) is the world’s largest chip foundry, producing roughly 70% of the world’s contract-made chips — including the most advanced silicon for Apple and NVIDIA. A foundry is where chip designs become physical reality: patterns finer than a virus, etched onto silicon wafers, where a single microscopic flaw can break a chip. Chip designers design; TSMC turns those designs into flawless physical silicon.

The heart of every CrossBar device is our SPU — an open-source secure processor with 150-year ReRAM memory. Designing secure silicon is one thing; fabricating it reliably is another. Our SPU is in full production on TSMC’s 22 nm process, benefiting from the industry-leading yields, consistency, and process quality that made TSMC the foundry of choice for the world’s most demanding chips.

Our ASIC team has worked closely with TSMC for years, with hundreds of millions of chips shipped over their careers. This is a partnership built on deep, proven experience.

 

3. Why This Matters to You

Anyone can claim their hardware is secure. But a security device with a manufacturing defect isn’t just an inconvenience — it’s a risk to everything it protects. Backing that claim requires verifiable design — which is why our silicon, board, and software are open source — and world-class execution, which is why we partner with Foxconn and TSMC. The result: a wallet that is open enough to inspect and built well enough to trust for generations.

The PHSM 8 enters mass production this September, with pre-sale opening in August alongside the launch of our Sovrency wallet. Stay tuned.
